So far my absolute favorite album of this year 2017 is the new album by Alvvays (pronouced "always" - the v's are just to facilitate internet searches), titled Antisocialites. This comes as no surprise, as their previous album, their self-titled debut, is my favorite album of 2014. However, they have stepped up their game, and they have made a new album even better than their debut. No sophomore slump here!
The style of the band could perhaps best be described as classic indie jangle-pop, but the band distinguish themselves with the shear amazing quality of the songs both musically and lyrically. The album title comes from the lyrics of the single Dreams Tonight, the video for which does a very clever job of putting the band into the '67 Expo in Montreal, splicing actual historical footage with new shots made to look like historical footage, including some wonderful monorail scenes. I love both the song and the video. Here it is:
There are nine other awesome songs on the album, including my very favorite, Not My Baby. If you like what you hear in the video, I highly recommend you check out this album!
Maryn listened and said this album is not bad but boring, so there's another perspective for you. I think Kristi agrees with Maryn - less annoying than some of the music I play but no reason to listen to it unless somebody else turns it on in the background. Draeden said that at least they don't have to keep listening to it on the way to Mountain Biking practice like he does.
