An Exciting Week

This has been a exciting week for us. On Tuesday we experienced a 5.8 earthquake. It caught us all by surprise, but there wasn't any damage done to our house or any of us. I got sent home from work early because they didn't want us going back in until the building had been inspected. It did shake up our kids a bit (pun intended). They had a rough time sleeping the next couple of nights, especially when we had a aftershock (4.5 on Richter scale) in the middle of the night that woke everyone up. It didn't help that Trevor was sleeping on a pull out in the sewing room since we were painting his room this week.

Sarah finished Trevor's room yesterday. We also were able to get some other projects around the house done like painting the outside of the basement door, refinishing a desk for Alexa's room, and building a small table for my table saw.

Yesterday afternoon we had Hurricane Irene move through. In our area it was just Tropical storm force winds, since we are so far from the ocean. For us it wasn't too bad, just a lot of rain and some wind. We did end up losing power a bit before 1 AM. They got it back on a little after 10 AM. The storm was quite loud throughout the night so it kept the kids, and us, up for long stretches of the night. Since we didn't know how long we were going to be without power I also cooked up the eggs in our fridge on my camping stove this morning. The weather also prevented Brian from flying in yesterday, so we don't get to have him visit for today before going to a conference this week.
